Dyer Named Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Programs

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College Athletics Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Dyer as the head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country programs beginning in August of 2012.

Matt has spent the last three years (fall 2009-spring 2012) as the assistant track and field and cross country coach at Connecticut College in New London, Conn. where he implemented running and strength training programs, recruited prospective high school athletes and assisted in the management of home track and field and cross country events.

Matt also has experience coaching track and field at the high school level, as he helped create and implement workout plans for the Austin Preparatory High School (Reading, Mass.) long distance runners during the winter of 2009.

“I am very excited to welcome Matt Dyer in to the Elms community,” stated newly appointed Athletics Director, Peter Krasny. “Matt has a strong background of recruiting runners regionally and nationally, and his experiences as a NCAA Division III student athlete and assistant coach have positioned him well to lead the cross country programs at Elms.”

As an NCAA Division III student athlete at Connecticut College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Mathematics in 2008, Matt began his intercollegiate career during the winter season of 2004 until the spring season of 2008. Primarily a sprinter and jumper, he capped his career by being named a team captain and was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) all-academic and all-sportsmanship teams, and was honored as the 2008 MVP of the Connecticut College track team.

The Elms cross country teams began their 2012 campaign on Saturday, September 1 at the Western New England University Invitational at 1:00 p.m. in Springfield, Mass.
