Cross Country Competes At Western New England College Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College freshman runner Jesse Zina (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior runner Alycia Dabrowski (Chicopee, Mass.) were the Blazers' top individual finishers at Saturday afternoon's Western New England College (WNEC) men and women's cross country invitational in Springfield, Mass.

WNEC earned top spot in the men's 8-kilometer race with 27 points, followed by Castleton State College (62), Clark University (82), John Jay College (117), Bard College (131), WNEC Alumni (145), Anna Maria College (178) and Elms with 206.

Endicott College captured first place in the women's 5-kilometer jaunt notching 47 points, followed by Clark with 68 and WNEC with 85. Colby-Sawyer College came in fourth (87), followed by Castleton State (123), Bard (137), St. Joseph College (Conn.) (157), John Jay (215), Elms (241) and Bay Path College (315).

Endicott's Greg Payne was the top individual finisher on the men's side with a time of 27:18 while Maggie Klein garnered top honors for the women with a time of 20:16.

For the Blazers' men's team, Zina became seventh on Elms' 8-kilometer course record list as he galloped to a 31:58 on Saturday. For the women, Dabrowski notched a time of 23:56 to lead the squad.

Elms concludes its 2010 season at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship race on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Harkness Memorial State Park in Westford, Conn. The event will be hosted by Mitchell College.
