Golden Bears Out Score Baseball 3-10

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Elms College Baseball team visited the Western New England University Golden Bears in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Trevor Nohilly (Bristol, CT) would get the road start for the Blazers, throwing a strikeout in his one inning pitched, in which he would allow four runs. In the bottom of the second inning, sophomore Ross Tine (Wethersfield, CT) would come in for relief and pitched three innings with two strikeouts. The Golden Bears took a 5-0 lead through the first two innings, leaving the Blazers in a tough spot early. Elms had a great opportunity to score some runs when they loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning, but a popup in foul territory and a pop fly left all three Blazer runners on base. Western New England took advantage of the Elms' shortcomings and added three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to go up 8-0. The Blazers finally got on the board in the sixth inning, when senior Blake Bastos (Mineola, NY) recorded a two-run double, scoring senior Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT) and first-year Griffen Levesque (Agawam, MA), which would by followed by first-year Eliel Colon (Springfield, MA) driving in Bastos in for a run for an RBI-single. These were the only runs the Blazers would get, and the Golden Bears took advantage of the struggling Elms defense, scoring two more runs during the game, taking the win 10-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Bastos: two hits, one run scored, and two runs batted in.

• Colon: one hit and a run batted in.

UP NEXT: The Blazers will host Dean College for their Senior Day on Saturday, April 20th in a doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:30.
