Quiet Bats Leads to Blazers Defeat Against Monks

HOLYOKE, MA - The Elms College Baseball team hosted the St. Joseph's College of Maine Monks in a conference game Tuesday afternoon at Mackenzie Stadium.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 1 | Saint Joseph's College of Maine 8
Record: Blazers 14-13, 4-5 (GNAC) | Monks 5-13, 2-3 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Monks scored early in the first inning, but Elms would limit Saint Joseph's to one run, leaving the Blazers with plenty of opportunity to get back in the game. Elms got nothing going on offense, and from the third to the fifth inning, the Monks would score five runs to extend their lead to 6-0. Saint Joseph's would make ten hits off Elm's senior starting pitcher Vinny Buono (Springfield, MA) that would put them in control of the game. Elms had a couple opportunities to limit the damage but could not capitalize. The Blazers would leave multiple runners on base that would have scored enough runs to make the game close, but the Monks defense remained strong. In the top of the sixth inning, the Blazers defense would end the inning with a double play after a fly ball was hit to senior Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) then he would throw the ball to junior catcher Blake Bastos (Mineola, NY) and catch the runner at third base when graduate student Josh Pasini (Enfield, CT) applied the tag. Elms got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning when Pasini drove in senior AJ Cook (Mendon, MA) an RBI single. St. Joseph's would respond to the Blazers' score by adding two runs of their own in the top of the ninth, taking the win 8-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Pasini: three hits and one run batted in.

  • Senior Josh Nohilly (Bristol, CT): three hits.

UP NEXT: The Blazers will be at home against Western New England University on Wednesday, April 10th in a non-conference matchup at 3:30 PM at Mackenzie Stadium.
