Baseball Suffers Double-Header Loss at Daniel Webster College, 11-4 and 4-0

NASHUA, N.H.  – Elms College sophomore designated hitter Felix Montalvo (Carolina, Puerto Rico) was 2 for 3 with two RBI in game one and sophomore shortstop Alex King (Lebanon, Conn.) added two hits in game two, but Daniel Webster College used timely hitting and solid pitching to post a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) double-header sweep of the Blazers by scores of 11-4 and 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Harvey Woods Field in Nashua, N.H.

With the losses, Elms moves to 13-21 on the season, 9-8 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster improves to 19-17 overall, 12-5 in conference play. The teams will play the third and final game of the series which also marks the regular season finale at 12:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass. on Sunday, April 29.

In the opener, Eagles' pitcher Kory Kiro (Goffstown, N.H.) tossed a complete game victory and improved to 5-2 on the season. Kiro allowed just one earned run (four total) on four hits, striking out five and walking one over seven innings.

Eric Bordeau (Alton Bay, N.H.) led Daniel Webster at the dish going 2 for 4 and driving in three runs, while fellow Kyle Brigham (Hudson, N.H.) was 2 for 2 with a triple and knocked in two. Rich Lizotte (West Warwick, R.I.) belted an RBI triple while Korey LeLievre (Hudson, N.H.) and Josh Chasse (Haverhill, Mass.) knocked in one run each.

Montalvo was 2 for 3 for the Blazers knocking in two, while sophomore starting pitcher Curtis LeBeau (Aubrun, Mass.) took the loss (3-5).

The Eagles jumped ahead 3-0 in the first inning scoring two unearned runs while LeLievre belted an RBI double.

Montalvo followed with a two-run single in the top of the second and Brigham answered with a single to score Darrik Marstaller (Spofford, N.H.) in the bottom of the frame to set the score at 4-2 in favor of Daniel Webster.

The Eagles got some breathing room with three in the third on four hits including Lizotte's triple; and after Elms cut it to 7-3 in the fourth with a Montalvo triple and a single off the bat of freshman right fielder Brady Forrest (Hampden, Mass.), Bordeau answered with a two-run double to make it a 9-3 game after four innings.

Elms made it 9-4 with an unearned run in the fifth before Brigham added an RBI triple in the bottom of the inning while another unearned run made it 11-4.

In the nightcap, Eagles' starting hurler Aaron Agrelo (New Bedford, Mass.) improved to 4-2 overall with a complete game shutout victory, his second of the season. Agrelo scattered six hits – all singles – and struck out two.

LeLievre had two hits including a triple and a RBI single for Daniel Webster.  

The Eagles forged ahead 1-0 in the first when Elliot Kilgore (Milford, N.H.) singled to lead off, advanced on an error and passed ball and came home on a Brigham ground out.

A Lizotte single plated Bordeau in the second to extend the lead to 2-0 game and the Eagles gave Agrelo some breathing room with two in the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles from LeLievre and Tyler Bonin (Litchfield, N.H.).

Blazers' sophomore starter Derek Leal (Charlton, Mass.) took the loss (3-3) for Elms, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one.
