Baseball Caps Spring Break Trip with 18-6 Win Over Olivet College

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Elms College baseball team had three players record three hits and the Blazers took advantage of nine Olivet College errors in Friday morning's baseball game in Elms' final day of action at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

With the win, Elms improves to 2-8 on the season, while Olivet falls to 2-3 overall.

Elms struck in the second inning with a run and then posted three runs in the third when senior catcher Rey Rivera (San Juan, Puerto Rico) drove in two runs with a triple. Freshman right fielder Brady Forrest (Hampden, Mass.) followed suit with a triple of his own sending Rivera home with the Blazers' fourth run of the game.

Elms notched three more runs in the top of the fourth on the strength of an RBI single by junior center fielder Steve Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) and a sacrifice fly by sophomore first baseman Anthony Pagano (Cranston, R.I.) to give Elms a 7-0 advantage before Olivet tallied two runs in the bottom half of the fourth to set the score at 7-2.

After the Blazers extended their lead to 8-2 in the top of the fifth, the Comets responded with two runs to narrow the gap to 8-4.

A Pagano home run in the top of the sixth as well as a bases-load RBI walk to freshman designated hitter Geoffrey Frost (Ludlow, Mass.) lifted the advantage to 10-4.

Elms pulled away in the top of the seventh scoring seven runs on five hits and used two Olivet miscues to stake a 17-4 cushion before the Comets plated their final two runs of the contest.

An Olivet error in the top of the eighth allowed Rivera to bring home Elms' final run of the game and clinch the 18-6 victory.

Fisher, Pagano, and Rivera each delivered three hits and collected two RBI in the game, while Forrest, Frost and senior left fielder Donny Morse (Alfred, Maine) each drove in two runs in the winning effort.

Elms' sophomore right-handed starter Curtis LeBeau (Auburn, Mass.) pitched the first five innings and earned the win notching three strikeouts, while sophomore reliever Carlos Camacho (Springfield, Mass.) tossed the final four innings and allowed just two runs on two hits and issued one strikeout.

Olivet's Andrew Brawley (Niles, Mich.) was 3 for 3 at the plate to lead the Comets, while starting pitcher Jay Magro (Bridgman, Mich.) suffered the loss.

Elms opens New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action at Lesley University on Monday, March 19 with double-header action starting at 3:00 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
