Baseball Falls to Central College (Iowa) in Double-header Action in Day One of Gene Cusic Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Elms College baseball team suffered 9-0 and 4-2 losses to Central College (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon in opening day action at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. 

With the loss, Elms begins its season 0-2 overall, while Central improves to 5-1 on the season.

In the first of the two seven-inning games, freshman Geoffrey Frost (Ludlow, Mass.) made his collegiate debut on the mound, tossing four innings in a non-decision. Sophomore right-hander Curtis LeBeau (Auburn, Mass.) suffered the loss in his first start of the season.

Sophomore Anthony Pagano (Cranston, R.I.) recorded a double in game one for Elms.

In game two, senior southpaw Andrew Bunger (Southington, Conn.) pitched the first 6.1 innings and was charged with the loss. Sophomore righty Derek Leal (Charlton, Mass.) hurled the final two outs of the 4-2 loss.

Elms plated its two runs on an RBI walk by junior centerfielder Steve Fisher (West Boylston, Mass.) and an error by Central.

The Blazers resume Cusic Classic action on Sunday, March 11 with a pair of seven inning games against Scranton University at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
