Women’s Swimming Falls to Western New England University, 126-75

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College junior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) won three events for the Blazers but Western New England University posted a 126-75 victory in Wednesday evening's women's swim meet in Springfield, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-8 on the season.

DeGrazia won the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.67), the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.28), and the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.92) while junior Gabrielle Calvanese (Agawam, Mass.) notched first place honors in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 37.71.

Blazers' junior Kelly Gilhooly (Bloomfield, Conn.) placed second in the 50-yard backstroke 31.33, fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (34.72) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:21.42).

In addition to her first place finish, Calvanese touched the wall third in the 50-yard breaststroke (39.39) and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:29.08.

Sophomore Maddie Boehm (Sutton, Mass.) clocked a time of 8:50.84 in the 500-yard freestyle to finish second and placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (3:16.17) and 50-yard freestyle (42.02).

Junior Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) added second place honors in the 50-yard butterfly (44.60) and was fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:20.56) and the 1000-yard freestyle (15:23.70).

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of DeGrazia, Gilhooly, Calvanese and Konstantinidis won the closing event with a time of 2:08.62.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, January 19 when both the men's and women's teams host Norwich University at 1:00 p.m. at Partyka Natatorium.
