Women’s Swimming Falls to Smith College, 133-101

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College junior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) won three events, but Smith College was able to secure a 133-101 victory over the Blazers in Tuesday evening's women's swim meet at Partyka Natatorium.

With the loss, Elms falls to 1-3 on the season, while Smith improves to 1-1 overall.

DeGrazia won the 800-meter freestyle (10:09.71), the 200-meter backstroke (2:41.72) and edged senior teammate Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) in the 50-meter freestyle with a winning time of 29.84. Dudunake touched the wall second in the event in a time of 30.00.

Blazers' seniors Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) each added a victory in the 50-meter butterfly (32.64) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:06.99) respectively, while the relay team of juniors Emily Schneider (West Kingston, R.I.), Jillian Francis (Methuen, Mass.), Abigail Wingfield (Northampton, Mass.) and Stephanie Konstantinidis (Holyoke, Mass.) earned first place in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 5:47.19.

Freshman Stephanie Tobin (Williamsburg, Mass.) added a victory in the 200-meter individual medley with a mark of 3:01.96.

Smith opened the contest with a win in the 200-meter medley relay behind the team of Emily Clark (Oakland, Maine), Ariel Orr (Hamden, Conn.), Alyssa Pascuzzo (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Hayley Bezubka (North Kingstown, R.I.) that posted a winning time of 2:15.12.

Pascuzzo, Clark and Orr each registered individual wins in the 200-meter freestyle (2:21.80), 100-meter backstroke (1:15.99), and 100-meter breaststroke (1:22.54) respectively, while Olivia Bannon (Amherst, Mass.) and Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore.) clocked wins in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:59.10) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:59.25).  

Elms returns to action on Saturday, November 17 when the men's and women's teams host Colby-Sawyer College at 1:00 p.m. at Partyka Natatorium.
