Softball Falls in Both Contests on Wednesday

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Elms College Softball team competed against the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins falling 9-4, and ending the night after a battle against the Wilkes University Colonels, 22-3.

How it happened

The Blazers kicked off the day with back to back doubles to left field from Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT) and Sarah Fortini (Florida, MA). Cosmos recorded an RBI sending home Courtney, followed by Fortini's double to send home both Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT) and Cosmos to chalk up 3 runs in the first. 

Kayla Cook (Taunton, MA) would send home the final run of the first inning, as well as the game following suite with an additional double to left field to send home Fortini. Ending the top of the 1st with four runs.

Jayden Dowe (Springfield, MA) was on the rubber for the Blazers finishing the game with an IP of 6, 13 hits and 9 runs scored.

Gwynedd Mercy would tack on runs in the bottom of the first (1), fifth (6) and sixth (2) innings, taking down the Blazers 9-4 after 6 innings.

How it happened

The Colonels opened up the game with 4 runs and 2 hits to end the top of the inning on a high note. The Blazers would answer back with 2 and 2 hits from Sarah Fotini (Florida, MA) and Jayden Dowe (Springfield, MA). 

In the bottom of the second Courtney Schwark (Port Ewen, NY) singled through the left side for and RBI to send Kyla Cook home for their 3rd run of the game. 

Wilkes Softball continued to make good contact with the ball registering runs through the 2nd (7), 3rd (7) and 4th (4).

Ceara Wright (Chicopee, MA) went to the pitching circle for the Blazers in the top of the 4th to finish out the game. Wright wrapped up the game with an IP of 2.0, 3 hits and 4 runs; The closing picture held the Colonels to 0 runs, 0 hits, with a player left on base. 

The Elms College Softball team ended the night falling to the Wilkes University Colonels 22-3.

UP NEXT 

The Softball team is back in the ball park on Friday, March 10th against Clarks Summit at 1PM, followed by a game against Eastern Nazarene at 3PM.
