Baseball Falls in NECC Championship Game

NEW LONDON, CT – The Elms College baseball team saw their 2021 New England Collegiate Conference Baseball Championship run end with a 15-2 loss to top-seeded Mitchell College on Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers jumped out front 1-0 in the top of the first. Elms came out swinging to start the game, turning a single by AJ Cook (Mendon, MA) and a double by Tyler Galenski (Wilbraham, MA) into a run in the first inning. Mitchell did well to limit the damage, stranding Galenski on second base with a punch out and a fly ball.

The Mariners provided an immediate response in the bottom of the frame, platting 3 runs. The home side pushed across four more runs in the second to go up 7-1. The Mariners continued to pile up runs in the later innings. In the sixth, expanding their lead 11-1 and tacked on two more in the eighth.

The Blazers picked up their final run in the ninth on a double by Cole Blades (Lowell, MA). However, it would not be enough to mount a comeback

Cook and Austin Roy (Cromwell, CT) each finished the game with a pair of hits. Roy, who also made the start on the bump, gave up seven runs on 13 hits and struck out two in the loss.
