Baseball Falls in both Games at Mitchell

New London, CT – The Elms College baseball team wrapped up regular season play with a pair of losses at Mitchell College on Sunday, with final scores of 16-1 and 7-6 in New England Collegiate Conference action.

Game 1 – Mitchell 16, Elms 1

The Mariners sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning and staked an early 4-0 lead. The home team added two more runs in the second inning to extend the margin to 6-0. Mitchell picked up two more runs in the next frame to make it 8-0.

Mitchell's lead was 12-1 in the sixth when they added four more runs on their way the 16-1 win

 

Game 2 – Mitchell 7, Elms 6

Elms jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Nathan Ayala plated a run with a sacrifice fly to center. Mitchell didn't trail for long, platting 5 runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-1 lead after one.

However, the Blazers pushed across five runs in the fifth to tie the game. Seamus Higgins (Rutland, MA) supplied a two-run double to ignite the rally, and later a sacrifice fly by Vinny Buono (Springfield, MA) made it a 6-6 game. Mitchell was able to jump back out in front 6-5 in the bottom of the inning.

The Blazers put two runners in scoring position with only one out but were unable to capitalize, and fell 7-6.

 

Elms wait to see what seed they earn for the post season.
