Women's Volleyball Sweeps NECC Weekly Awards

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball collected both New England Collegiate Conference Women's Volleyball weekly awards, announced by the league office Monday. Junior Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, Nev.) was selected as Player of the Week, while freshman Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) nab Rookie of the Week honors.

Redding helped power the Blazers attack to a season-best 4-2 start for Elms. Redding has amassed 76 kills, 35 digs, and 12 service aces across six matches, including four matches with double-digit kills. Redding slammed a season-high 19 kills with six digs in a five-set battle at Bridgewater State. Redding earned All-Tournament team status after leading the Blazers offense during a perfect 3-0 tournament run.

In her first six collegiate matches, Stewart has racked up 187 assists with 67 digs and 19 kills during a 4-2 start for the Blazers, their best start in program history. Stewart claimed 2017 Blazer Invitational Tournament MVP honors after help guide Elms to a perfect 3-0 tournament run. Stewart averaged 20-plus assists in every match, including a career-high 42 assists in a five-set battle at Bridgewater State. Stewart has notched four double-doubles, featuring a career-high 19 digs and 30 assists in a three-set sweep of SUNY-Cobleskill.

The Blazers return to the court Thursday night when they host University of St. Joseph (Conn.) in a non-conference match at Picknelly Arena at 7:00 p.m.
