Women's Lacrosse Battles the Pilgrims to the End

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team hosted New England College College in conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

New England College started off the game up early, as the Pilgrims scored two quick goals on the Blazers. Elms responded with three straight goals to take the lead, one by first-year Rachel Dort (Chicopee, MA), and two by sophomore Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, NY). The Blazers lead was short lived, as the Pilgrims broke down the Elms defense, scoring four straight goals to take a 6-3 lead after the first quarter. The Pilgrims scored five more goals in the second, extending their lead out to 11-3. Elms struggled on offense, turning the ball over multiple times. The Blazers responded well when Cronin, junior Greta Frankwicz (Cape Elizabeth, ME) and senior Elise Paier (West Springfield, MA) scored three straight goals to limit the damage and breathe some life into the Elms offense. Down by five goals going into the fourth, the Blazers had a lot of opportunities to close the gap further and take the lead. New England College would not have this, and put the game back out of reach early on due to three early goals in the quarter. Frankwicz provided three huge goals for the Blazers to try and make a late run, but two more goals by the Pilgrims pushed the Blazers deficit back out. Elms had a couple of late chances to make a run, but their shots were saved by the Pilgrims, resulting in a 15-9 defeat for the Blazers.
