Blazers Stumble At Eastern Conn.

MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Elms College baseball team was over-matched on Thursday, falling 22-2 at Eastern Connecticut State in non-conference play.

The Blazers fell behind 8-0 after the Warriors scored twice in the first and added six more in the second. The Warriors then exploded for eight more runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach, leading 16-0.

Elms (11-22) picked up two runs in the top of the fifth with a two-out rally that included singles from Ben Ross (Thompson, Conn.) and Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and a two-run double from Thomas Slane (Tolland, Conn.). Unfortunately, that was the only offense the Blazers could manage, falling 22-2 after ECSU added three more runs in each the sixth and the eighth.

Elms was out-hit 18-7 in the game. Slane led the Blazer attacked with two hits and both RBIs. D.J. Scavone and Jack Rich each had three RBIs for the Warriors (18-11).

Mason Scott (Ludlow, Mass.) got the start on the mound for Elms, giving up eight earned runs in 1.2 innings in the loss. Jack Risley threw five innings and scattered six hits in the win for Eastern Conn.

Elms will return to action on Saturday when the Blazers open the final series of the regular season, a crucial three-game set against Mitchell beginning with a home double-header on April 28. The regular season finale will be at Mitchell on April 29.
