Elms Falls In Series Finale Against SVC

HOLYOKE, Mass. – The Elms College baseball team couldn't overcome five early runs from Southern Vermont in New England Collegiate Conference action on Friday, falling 5-3 to the Mountaineers at Mackenzie Stadium.

Friday's game was scheduled as a home game for SVC, but soggy field conditions forced the game to be played at Elms' home field, The Mountaineers, however, remained the "home" team and batted in the bottom of each inning.

SVC picked up two runs in the third and three in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. The Blazers cut the deficit to just two at 5-3 with two runs in the seventh, but couldn't get any closer.

Ben Ross and Josh Pasini each went 2-for-4 in the game and Ross, Thomas Slane and Andy Vasquez picked up one RBI each.

Starting pitcher Brandon Bennett lasted 2.2 innings and took the loss after giving up a pair of earned runs. Mason Scott relieved Bennett and got Elms through the fourth inning but was tagged for three more runs, all earned. Michael Luciano allowed just two hits in three innings of work before Mickey Howe pitched a 1-2-3 eighth for the Blazers.

Will Iannacone lead SVC with a 2-for-3 hitting performance and three RBIs while Joe Braim got the win after pitching a strong eight innings. Rees LeSoine picked up his first save of the season after a 1-2-3 ninth.

Elms will return to NECC on Saturday with a double-header against Newbury. The first game will begin at noon.
