Women’s Swimming Soars Past Western New England College (WNEC), 145-115

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Elms College sophomore swimmer Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) and freshmen swimmers Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) and Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.) all won three events to help lift the Blazers to a 145-115 win over Western New England College in Wednesday evening's women's swim dual meet in Springfield, Mass.

With the win, Elms improves to 7-1 on the season.

Dudunake claimed top honors in the 50-yard breaststroke (34.09), the 100-yard freestyle (59.39) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:07.77), while DeGrazia finished first in the 50-yard backstroke (30.77), the 50-yard freestyle (26.73) and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:23.12.

Kirchner added top finishes in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:26.52, the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.45) and the 50-yard butterfly (29.66).

Sophomore Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) clocked a time of 2:07.43 to win the 200-yard freestyle and added second place finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events with respective time of 27.72 and 59.50.

WNEC was led by Aimee Smachetti (Bristol, Conn.) who notched a winning time in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.40) and Tiffany Santilli (Southbridge, Mass.) who won the 500-yard freestyle (6:08.17).

Smachetti also swam the third leg on both the winning 200-yard medley (2:05.19) and 200-yard freestyle (1:55.53) relay teams.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 22 when it hosts Gordon College and Norwich University in tri-meet action. First-event is set for 12:00 p.m. at Partyka Natatorium.
