CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshman
Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) broke a pair
of school records and won two individual events to help pace the
Blazers to a sweep of St. Joseph (Conn.) College and Husson
University in Saturday morning’s women’s double dual
meet at Partyka Natatorium.
Elms earned a 77-45 victory over St. Joseph and a 78-44 decision
over Husson to improve to 9-5 on the season. Husson (1-6) earned a
close 64-58 victory over St. Joseph (0-8) in the final matchup of
the double dual meet.
Dudunake won the 50-meter freestyle in a time of 29.49, besting
her previous time of 29.67 to set a new school mark in the event.
She also clocked a 2:22.52 in the 200-meter freestyle, shattering
sophomore Ashley Arbo’s (Kensington, Conn.)
time of 2:23.41 set in 2008. Dudunake finished second behind St.
Joseph’s Sarah Wheeler (Winchendon Springs,
Mass.) who registered a top time 2:21.86 in that race.
Dudunake also clocked a 1:15.19 in the 100-meter individual medley
to garner first place honors.
Sophomore Katie Roberts (Torrington, Conn.)
finished first in the 50-meter breaststroke (39.94) and notched a
time of 1:28.29 in the 100-meter breaststroke to claim first
place.
Arbo and freshman Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.)
rounded out the Blazers’ top performers, as Arbo glided to a
winning time of 35.03 in the 50-meter backstroke, while Furtek
delivered a 33.43 in the 50-meter butterfly to win the event.
The 200-meter medley relay team of Arbo, Roberts, Furtek and
freshman Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) swam a
2:17.10 to win the opening race.
Furtek then teamed with Arbo, junior Theresa Pitassi
(Naugatuck, Conn.) and Dudunake to win the 200-meter
freestyle relay with a top time of 2:00.45.
For St. Joseph, Wheeler won all three events she was in, notching
a 1:10.45 in the 100-meter butterfly, and a 1:04.73 in the
100-meter freestyle in addition to her top time of 2:21.86 in the
200-meter freestyle.
Husson received first place finishes from Erin Doucette
(Hampden, Maine) in the 100-meter backstroke (1:16.91) and
Amanda Mason (Dexter, Maine) who tallied a time of
5:16.73 in the 400-meter freestyle.
Elms returns to action on Friday, Feb. 19-20 at the New England
Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA)
