NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Elms College sophomore
swimmer Ashley Arbo (Kensington, Conn.) collected
a pair of school records in Tuesday evening’s women’s
swimming meet at Smith College.
The Blazers fell 162-124 and are now 1-2 on the season.
Arbo clocked a sizzling time of 26.94 in the 50-yard freestyle,
besting Smith’s Michelle Mai (Paris, France)
by one one hundredth of a second (26.95) to win the event and set a
new Elms school mark. The record was previously held by Kaity Jo
Bryll who clocked a time of 27.26 in 2007.
Arbo also set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle,
registering a time of 2:09.32 en route to a second place finish.
Arbo bested Liz Walker’s time of 2:09.76 set in 2007.
The team of freshman Chalis Bird (Windsor,
Mass.), junior Theresa Pitassi (Naugatuck,
Conn.), freshman Emalee Furtek (Ludlow,
Mass.) and freshman Tessa Dudunake (Northampton,
Mass.) set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay
by notching a time of 1:48.63, topping the mark of 1:49.32 set by
Bryll, Kate Orefice, Marie Waterhouse and Walker in 2007.
Bird added a first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (58.98),
while Dudunake earned top honors in the 200-yard breaststroke with
a time of 2:41.22.
Sophomore Katie Roberts (Torrington, Conn.) and
junior Dariana Diaz (Dorchester, Mass.) each
notched first place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and
200-yard individual medley respectively. Roberts clocked a winning
time of 1:18.62, while Diaz finished with a time of 2:45.92.
Arbo, Dudunake, Furtek and Bird also teamed together to win the
200-yard medley relay.
The Blazers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 with a 1:00 p.m.
meet at Colby-Sawyer.
