Vurno Named NECC Rookie of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College freshman Vanessa Vurno (Salem, Conn.) was tabbed as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday morning. Vurno has claimed rookie of the week honors in four of the six weeks awarded so far this season.

Vurno delivered eight points during a pair of victories for the Blazers last week. Vurno dished out three assists with two goals during a 14-3 win over St. Joseph (Conn.), followed with a goal and two assists in a 19-9 drubbing of Daniel Webster. For the season, Vurno leads the Blazers with a team-high 40 points on 22 goals and 18 assists, ranking second in the conference in points and assists.

Vurno and the Blazers will return to the field in a non-conference home tilt against Rhode Island College at Leary Field Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
