Women's Lacrosse Surges Past Daniel Webster

NASHUA, N.H. –  The Elms College women's lacrosse team used a strong second half performance to post a 12-6 victory over host Daniel Webster in an New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) matchup Saturday afternoon at Eagle Field.

The victory was the fifth in their last six outings for the Blazers (5-4, 3-0 NECC), while DWC fell to 0-7 overall (0-3 NECC).

Alexis Pavelock (Saratoga Spring, N.Y.) and Rose Brown (Queens Village, N.Y.) added single goals for DWC.

Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) and Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) led Elms with four goals each. Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) picked up a goal and two assists. Pirog also led the Blazers with a game-high six groundballs.

Meeghan O'Connor (Fall River, Mass.) made six saves in goal for the visitors while Michelle Davis (McKinney, Texas) stopped 11 shots for the hosts.

Elms finished with a 23-12 shots on goal advantage while DWC edged the Blazers 23-21 in grounders. Elms was solid in the free-position circle, connecting on 4 of 7 attempts. DWC converted on 2 of 9.

Brown game the Eagles an early lead with her first of the season 5:05 into the game before McDonough and Pirog combined for the next three for a 3-1 game.

Pavelock would follow with 9:42 to go in the first to cut the lead to 3-2 but Pirog and Cava closed out the half with scores for a 5-2 lead at the break.

Elms took control netting the first five of the second half with two off the stick of McDonough for a 10-2 game.

Newcomer Amanda Dargie (Melbourne, Fla.) went to work for the Eagles netting all four of her goals over the final 16:45 of the game. 

The Blazers return to action with a road trip to Wheelock College Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. DWC is back in action on Monday hosting St. Joseph's (Conn.) at 4:00 p.m.
