Women's Lacrosse Preview: Albertus Magnus

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's lacrosse squad will continue their non-conference schedule will a road trip to Albertus Magnus Monday afternoon for a 4:00 game at Celentano Field in New Haven, Connecticut. This will be the first career meeting between the two schools.

The Blazers are 1-3 on the season after capturing their first victory with a 12-7 road win at Sage College last Thursday. Elms is averaging 6.25 goals on 18.3 shots per game, while opponents are producing 13 goals on 22 shots. The Blazers are led by the duo of senior midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) and junior attacker Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) with six goals apiece. Narey has added a team-high 13 ground balls and a team-high 10 caused turnovers, while Pirog leads the team in shots with 16. Senior attacker Nora McDonough (South Hadley, Mass.) is Elms' top distributor with three assists, adding two goals and four caused turnovers. Junior attacker Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) has netted four goals on six shots, and freshmen midfielders Madison Jung (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and Victoria-Lynn Smith (Somers, Conn.) have two goals each. Sophomore goalkeeper Meeghan O'Connor (Fall River, Mass.) leads the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) in saves with 43 on the season.

Albertus Magnus sits at 1-5 on the season, gaining their first victory with a 22-8 win over Bay Path before losses to Mount Ida (22-2) and Rivier (19-5). The Falcons are averaging 6.5 goals on 18.3 shots per game, while opponents are generating 16.3 goals on 30.8 shots. Albertus Magnus is paced by freshman attacker Jenny Luna (Brentwood, N.Y.) with a team-high 11 goals on 20 shots with two assists. Junior attacker Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) has scored nine goals, while freshman attacker Nikki Kern (Wallingford, Conn.) has eight goals with team-high in draw controls (22), ground balls (20), and caused turnovers (10). Freshman defender Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) has netted five goals with 17 ground balls and seven caused turnovers, and junior attacker Ashley Guerrera (Watertown, Conn.) has five points with three goals and two assists. Junior goalkeeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) owns a 16.33 goals against average with 54 saves and a 35.5 save percentage in six contests.

The Blazers and Falcons will square off at Celentano Field Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
