Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Worcester State, 17-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – Elms College junior attacker Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and sophomore attacker Katlyn Harrington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each netted a goal, but Worcester State College received a three-goal effort from three different players to help lift the Lancers to a 17-2 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon’s New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) contest.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-9 overall, 0-3 in NEWLA action, while Worcester State improves to 4-2 on the season, 2-1 in NEWLA action.

Worcester State took a 12-0 lead into the intermission behind three goals from Carley MacIntyre (Townsend, Mass.) and two apiece from Amanda Cosenza (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Colleen Manning (Plainville, Mass.), and Kim Vail (West Newbury, Mass.).

Harrington and Lough each found the back of the net in the second period for the Blazers, but it was not enough, as Amanda Cosenza and Vail each added their third scoring strikes in the final 30 minutes, while Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, Mass.) and Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each scored their second goals of the contest in the frame.

Daryl Powell (Beverly, Mass.) and Karla Rotondi (Tewksbury, Mass.) each scored one goal in the win for the Lancers.

Abby Cosenza scored a team-best six groundballs, while MacIntyre earned six draw controls for Worcester State.

Blazers’ senior goalkeeper Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, Mass.) collected 14 saves and picked up a team-best six groundballs in the losing effort, while Lough, Harrington, sophomore attacker Kim Jodoin (Pittsfield, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Sarah Picard (West Springfield, Mass.) collected three groundballs each.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, April 14 when it hosts Pine Manor College at 7:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
