NASHUA, N.H. – Elms College sophomore attacker Katlyn Harrington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior attacker Jennifer Lough (Feeding Hills, Mass.) combined for five of the Blazers’ seven goals, but Daniel Webster College’s Stephanie Zeman (Jefferson Township, N.J.) netted eight goals to spark the Eagles to a 16-7 win in Thursday afternoon’s non-conference women’s lacrosse game at Eagle Field.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-6 overall, while Daniel Webster improves to 1-3 on the season.

After Daniel Webster jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, Elms answered when Lough found the back of the net twice to knot the score at 2-2.

After three scores by the Eagles, Harrington scored the first of her three goals on a pass from sophomore attacker Chelsey Grabowski (South Hadley, Mass.) to bring the Blazers to within two at 5-3. Daniel Webster answered with three more tallies before intermission to post an 8-3 lead.

Leading 11-3 in the second period, sophomore attacker Kim Jodoin (Pittsfield, Mass.) struck for her first goal of the season. Harrington notched her second goal of the contest following four scores from the Eagles to set the score at 14-5.

Grabowski then took advantage of a free position shot opportunity and cut the Blazers’ deficit to nine with 6:05 second remaining in the contest (15-6). Harrington completed her hat-trick five minutes later but it was not enough as Daniel Webster held on for a 16-7 win.

Grabowski, Lough and Jodoin each scooped up two ground balls, while Jodoin won three draw controls. Senior defender Jessica Shea (South Hadley, Mass.) caused a team-high three turnovers, while senior goalkeeper Krystyna Gagne (Methuen, Mass.) stopped 14 shots in the losing effort.

Zeman scored five of her eight goals in the second half, while Sarah Twardowski (Buffalo, N.Y.), and Natalie Bates (N. Kingston, R.I.) chipped in with three and two scores respectively for the Eagles.

Ashley Atkins (Amherst, N.H.) totaled a game-best five groundballs, while Bates won seven of the squad’s 14 draw controls.

Elms returns to non-conference action on Saturday, April 3 when its hosts Thomas College at 1:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
