HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
First-year Caity Flynn (Colchester, CT) would start for Elms in Game 1 of the day. Down 2-0 early, the Blazers scored an early run off of an RBI-double by senior Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT), bringing in junior Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT) to cut the deficit to 2-1 for Elms. The AMCats scored another run after this, but Cammarata followed this with an RBI-single of her own, driving in first-year Amanda Raymond (Auburn, ME) to keep Elms in the game only down 3-2. Throwought the game, both teams would make some outstanding plays defensivley, including a Willie Mayes-esc catch by Cosmos to steal a hit from AMC. However, late in the game, Anna Maria roughed up first-year pitcher Jill Dykema (Preston, CT), scoring five runs to win the first game of the doubleheader 9-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Cammarata: three hits and two runs batted in.

  • Flynn: 4.0 innings pitched, four earned runs, and three strikeouts.

Game 2
Dykema would take the mound again for Game 2 of the doubleheader, but allowed eight runs through three innings, as Anna Maria continued to find ways to hit against Elms. Dykema more than made up for this by recording an RBI-single for the Blazers driving in Cosmos for their first run. Elms also pulled off a double steal in the inning, with Dykema stealing second at the same time Cammarata stole home, giving the Blazers their second run of the game. Anna Maria would score three more runs during the game, winning 11-2
