Softball Suffers Two Losses In Doubleheader

Penn St. – Altoona 11, Elms 1

NAPLES, Fla. – The Elms College softball team took on two different teams in a doubleheader on Sunday at North Collier Regional Park. The Blazers would lose the first game of the day to Penn St. 11-1, and suffered an 8-6 setback to Albion College in game two.

Penn State Altoona used a well-rounded performance to defeat Elms in a run-rule shortened, five-inning win. The Lady Lions delivered 11 runs on 11 hits while limiting Elms to just one run on three hits.

The Blazers were able to get on the board when Lisa Lusardi (Enfield, CT.) singled in Madison Messier (Warren, MA.) for its lone run in the bottom of the third.

Albion 8, Elms 6

The Blazers would get on the boar first, getting out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Elms would take its second lead of the game in the 5th when Madison Messier (Warren, Ma.) doubled in Katelyn Sylvia (Southwick, MA.) and Raeanna Tumel (Stafford, CT.) Messier would go 2 for 4 on the day and picked up her 100th career hit.

The Blazer lead would stand until the bottom of the 5th inning when Albion was able to score 6 times on hits from Camilla Rolof, Lauren Beougher and Eryn VanderVlucht and take a 7-3 lead.

The Blazers were able to mount a comeback after a clutch hit from Tea Sullivan (Dracut, MA.) that would score Catharine Wrang (Middeltown, CT.). Elms would pick up another unearned run in the 7th but the comeback would fall short in the 8-6 loss.

The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday when they face Drew University at 9am and Penn St – Altoona at 11am.
