Softball Falls to Franklin & Marshall College, Saint Joseph’s College (Maine)

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Elms College softball team lost a pair of 10-2 decisions to Franklin & Marshall College and Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Tuesday during Gene Cusic Classic action in Fort Myers, Fla.

Elms moves to 0-6 on the season with its two setbacks.

Against Saint Joseph's, senior second baseman Alexandra Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) and freshman shortstop Taylor Skinner (South Windsor, Conn.) each went 2 for 3 with an RBI at the dish and the Blazers owned a 1-0 lead after the first half inning of play.

The Monks answered with a seven-run bottom half of the first to take a commanding 7-1 lead. The Blazers got a run back in the top of the fourth when senior center fielder Leah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.) scored on Taylor Skinner's RBI base hit to set the score at 7-2.

Saint Joseph put the game out of reach with a run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the seventh to seal the 10-2 win.

Freshman pitcher Jamie Miner (Chicopee, Mass.) pitched 4.1 innings and issued a strikeout, while sophomore pitcher Elizabeth Patient (Leicester, Mass.) dealt one strikeout in 1.1 innings of relief work.

In the first game, Spring and senior catcher Sarah Buckley (Wilbraham, Mass.) each went 2 for 4 at the dish while sophomore hurler Jessica Colson (Agawam, Mass.) struck out six batters.

Elms concludes Gene Cusic Classic action with a 9:00 a.m. game versus the College of Wooster and an 11:00 a.m contest against Richard Stockton.
