Softball's Hampton Named NECC Pitcher of the Week

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College sophomore softball pitcher Courtney Hampton (Westfield, Mass.) was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 26-May 2 as announced by the league on Monday.

Hampton helped the Blazers to a 5-1 week, picking up a trio of victories in the circle and finishing the regular season with 11 wins. Hampton notched her first win of the week in the first game of a doubleheader against Mitchell College on April 30, tossing six strikeouts in a complete-game, eight-inning outing against the Mariners. Hampton also helped her own cause by hitting a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to give Elms a thrilling extra-inning victory. In game two against the Mariners, Hampton tossed a three-hit shutout and fanned three batters to secure the sweep.  In game one of the Blazers' doubleheader at Becker, Hampton fired seven strikeouts in four innings of scoreless relief to notch her 11th win of the 2010 campaign. This is Hampton's second weekly accolade of the season.
