Blazer Golf Earns Runner-Up Finish At NECC Championship

WEST BOYLSTON, Mass. – The Elms College men's golf team secured a second-place finish at the New England Collegiate Conference championships on Sunday after an 11-stroke improvement over Saturday's round, as the Blazers posted a team score of 312 on Sunday to move ahead of Mitchell College. With a 36-hole total score of 635, Elms finished behind only champion Springfield, who finished at 615 to claim the title. The championship was contested at Wachusett Country Club.

Mitchell finished third (643) followed by Eastern Nazarene (685) and Dean College (725).

William Marchand matched the low round of the day on Sunday with a 74 to move up 10 spots into a fourth place individual finish at 13-over par. Chris Soderberg finished tied for fifth at +14 after following Saturday's 76 with an 82 on Sunday. Matt King moved into a tie for 8th at +16 with a 76 on Sunday and John Keegan shot 80 to finish 13th at +19. Frankie Murray finished tied for 16th at +23.

Marchand and Soderberg earned All-NECC honors for their performances.

Springfield's Jake Raichle carded his second-straight 74 to leap-frog teammate Mike Strong and claim medalist honors. Strong shot 77 and finished at +6, two behind Raichle.

The Blazers will compete in the 18-hole Emmanuel College Tournament on Oct. 2 before hosting the Blazer Invitational Oct. 6-7.
