Cross Country Opens Season At SUNY-Poly Invitational

MARCY, N.Y. – The Elms College men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2017 campaign at the 11th annual SUNY-Poly Short Course Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Blazers women's squad finished sixth overall, while the men's team placed 13th.

On the women's side, senior Sarah Tatgenhorst (Winterport, Maine) finished 12th overall with a time team-low time of 18:00. Sophomore Ariah Willemain (Belchertown, Mass.) placed 58th with a time of 20.43, while freshmen Keara Moulton (21.05; ) and Julia Trezza (21.05; ) finished a tenth of a second apart in 64th and 65th, respectively. Sophomore Emma Morton (Southwick, Mass.) came in at 69th with a time of 21:21, followed by freshman Tyana Medina (22:00; Springfield, Mass.) in 77th, sophomore Emily Guillerault (22:11; East Granby, Mass.) in 80th, senior Sarah Kaczenski (22:57, Northfield, Mass.) in 84th, and junior Alyssa Barnes (29:00; Pittsfield, Mass.) at 101st.

For the men's squad, sophomore Rich Hernandez (Branford, Conn.) ran a team-low 24:48 for 96th. Freshman Donald Cianciolo (Waterbury, Conn.) placed 112th with a time of 25:47, while classmate Robert Culhane (Hampden, Mass.) placed 120th with a time of 27:05. Freshman Kevin Corcoran (Waterbury, Conn.) clocked in at 28:40 to finish 126th, and freshman Brendan Curley (Chicopee, Mass.) rounded out the Blazers runners in 131st with a time of 30:05.

The Blazers will return to action at the Mitchell College Invitational on Saturday, September 16th.
