Blazers Tally Win in GNAC Quarterfinals
CHICOPEE, MA – The Elms men's volleyball team won their first round GNAC quarterfinal match vs. Regis 3-0.
SCORES: Elms 3 – Regis 0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-19)
RECORDS: Elms (15-14, 10-6 GNAC) Regis (12-17, 7-9 GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first set was back-and-forth and featured 10 ties and 2 total lead changes. The Blazers held a 2 point lead at 13-11 following a pair of kills from Carlos Mercado. Another Mercado kill gave the Blazers a 21-19 advantage before Elms took a 24-23 lead on a Pride service error. Going into extra points, the Blazers sealed the set on 2 hitting errors from the Pride. The second set saw the Blazers down early before they evened the score at 9-9 on a kill from Luis Martinez. A kill by Moose Perry and back-to-back service aces from Mercado gave the Blazers a 5 point lead at 17-12. A kill from Benjamin Laxton put the Blazers up 20-15 before traded errors finished the set 25-18. The third set saw the Blazers open with a lead before Regis evened the set at 6-6. The Blazers took a 3 point lead at 13-10 on a kill from Martinez. Back-to-back service aces from Martinez and a kill from Mercado put the Blazers up 20-14 before a Regis service error sealed the set and match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Mercado led the Blazers with 11 kills with Martinez adding 9 and 5 a piece for Laxton and Perry.
Antonio Delgado Rolon led the Blazers to a .247 hitting percentage with 29 assists and added 8 digs and 2 kills.
Mercado also led the Blazers with 11 digs with Delgado Rolon adding 8 and Liedke 7.
