Blazer Men's Volleyball Picks Up Two More Sweeps, Extends Streak To 6

MARCY, N.Y. – The Elms College men's volleyball team completed a perfect weekend at the SUNY Poly Invitational with two wins on Saturday, a pair 3-0 wins over Geneva and Theil.
The Blazer improve to 6-1 on the season and have won six straight matches after a hard-fought loss in the season opener. Elms continues play next weekend at Nazareth College where the Blazers will face Penn St.-Behrend and Medaille on Feb. 1 and Wells on Feb. 2.
Elms 3, Geneva 0
Jeremy Torres picked up a 16-kill, 13-dig double-double and hit .385 to power the Blazer offense. Torres needed just 26 attempts to rack up his 16 kills. Carlos Mercado set the Elms offense to a .222 hitting percentage and racked up 29 assists along the way. Mercado added seven digs and two blocks for the Blazers, who won 25-21, 25-18, 25-13.
Audrye Alejandro added eight digs for Elms, Jovanny Torres finished with seven kills, and Jake Johnson chipped in with four kills on six swings to hit .667.
Quinn McCracken led Geneva (4-1) with 10 kills and Anthony Baronio added seven kills and 11 assists. Matt Peters led Geneva with 12 assists.
The Blazers held Geneva to a .074 hitting percentage despite being out-blocked 6.0-4.0.
Elms 3, Thiel 0
Elms sixth consecutive victory came by the score of 25-19, 25-16, 25-23 over Thiel (0-2). The Blazers hit .255 in the match and held the Tomcats to a .179 clip.
Mercado distributed 39 assists among three hitters who each finished with eight or more kills. Leading that trio was Jeremy Torres, who finished with a match-high 14 kills to go along with six digs. Jovanny Torres added 10 kills and seven digs, and Daniel Martinez finished with eight kills on 12 swings to hit .417. David Hernandez joined the Elms arsenal with five kills and no errors to hit .556, and Jake Johnson added four kills for the Blazers.
Chance Hoffman led Thiel with 13 kills and Ryan Sumarsono added 12 digs for the Tomcats but it wasn't enough to negate Elms advantages hitting, digging (40-25) and serving (3-0).
