Field Hockey Voted Second in NECC Preseason Poll

ATTLEBORO. Mass. - The Elms College field hockey team was voted to finish second in the 2015 New England Collegiate Conference Field Hockey Preseason Coaches' Poll, released by the conference office Wednesday afternoon. The Blazers collected 29 points, including one first-place vote.

Elms will be returning eight players from the 2014 squad, who fell to Regis College on penalty strokes in the 2014 NECC Championship match. The Blazers will bring back senior goalkeeper Samantha Alvino (Holtsville, N.Y.) and senior defender Abby McNulty (Bedford, Mass.), who both received All-Conference status after their sophomore season in 2013, along with starting defenders junior Stephanie Esposito (Orange, Conn.) and sophomore Alyssa Falvo (Wilbraham, Mass.).

Defending NECC Champion Regis College earned the top spot in the poll. The Pride received 31 points including three first place votes. Narrowly claiming second in the polls was Elms College with one first place vote and a total of 29 points. Elms was just one point ahead of Becker College who totaled 28 points and two first place nods. Regis and Elms competed at the 2014 Championship where Regis took home the crown in a 2-1 victory in penalty strokes. Regis earned the AQ to the NCAA tournament where they fell in the first round to Franklin and Marshall College.

Closing out the preseason poll are Wheelock College in fourth with 20 points, Bay Path University in fifth with 12 points, and Daniel Webster College in sixth with 6 points.

The Field Hockey season begins on Tuesday, September 1^st with non-conference matchups. NECC play starts on Saturday, September 12^th when Bay Path University travels to Regis College.
