Elms College Announces 2016 Hall of Fame Class

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College Athletics department has announced the Elms College Hall of Fame Class of 2016. This year's inductees include Edward Silva, Juan Maldonado, and Juan Alverio. The induction ceremony will be held on the Elms College campus on Friday, September 30th.

Ed Silva was head coach of the men's basketball program from 2001-2012, and sits as the all-time winningest coach with a career record of 206-103 (.666). Silva captured seven straight conference championships across the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) from 2004-2011. Six of Silva's squads made appearances in the NCAA Division III Championship tournament, including advancing to the second round during the 2007-08 season.

Juan Maldonado was a member of the men's basketball team from 2006-2010. At the time of induction, Maldonado owns the program records for career points (1,686), field goals made (581), three-point field goal percentage (44.7), and free throw percentage (81.0). Maldonado was selected as the 2010 NECC Player of the Year after averaging 17.6 points per game as the Blazers captured the NECC and ECAC Championships. Maldonado was a two-time First Team All-NECC selection, and a 2008 First Team All-NAC selection.

Juan Alverio was a member of the men's basketball team from 2007-2011. At the time of induction, Juan is the program's all-time leader in blocks (116), and ranks third in rebounds (602) and sixth in steals (136). Alverio holds the single season record for rebounds and blocks with 295 and 54, respectively, during the 2010-11 season. Juan set single-game records with 20 rebounds at Wheelock College on January 27, 2011, and seven blocks against Buffalo State on December 11, 2010.
