Blazers Close Out Their Regular Season Following a Tri-Match Split

NASHUA, NH - The Elms Women's Volleyball team competed against the Anna Maria AMCATs and the Rivier University Raiders in their final conference tri-match of the season, Blazers went 1-1 on the day.

How it happened

In the opening set against Anna Maria the AMCATS got straight to business possessing an 8-2 lead after going on two back to back runs over the Blazers. The Elms Women did not let the lead affect them as they slowly chipped away at the deficit. After three kills from Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, MA) and a service ace from Samiyah Cabrera (Springfield, MA) the set became tied up  at 15's,  tilting the set in the Blazers favor. From that point on in the set the Blazers quickly built up to 25, locking in the first match point 25-22.

Unlike in the first set the second one was not in the Blazers favor as the AMCATS flipped the script taking the lead from the Blazers late. After trailing behind the Blazers for twenty points Anna Maria found a last minute push to send them past Elms. The AMCATS would take the second match point 21-25 to tie up the match 1-1.

In the final two sets, the Blazers denied the AMCATS any chance of the lead as they serged to 25. The Elms Women's Volleyball team would come out on top taking down the AMCATS 3-1 in the first match. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Victoria Solis (Springfield, MA) recorded 13 kills

Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, MA) recorded 12 kills and 12 digs

Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, NM) handed out 29 assists

Alyssa Moore (Ludlow, MA) had 29 digs

Records: Raiders (17-9,11-4) | Blazers (5-22,4-10)

How it happened

In the first two sets the Rivier Raiders were able to come out on top of each after two hard fought battles. In the first set the Blazers stayed one step behind the Raiders, never able to surpass their lead. In the second set after three lead changes and multiple tied scores, the Blazers were unable to obtain the match point. After sending the set into extra points the Raiders took their second match point, 28-30 making the match score 0-2.

The Blazers turned up the heat in the middle set and fourth set, causing a lead change early. The Raiders kept the third set close, staying one move behind Elms. The Blazers would secure their first match point winning the third set 25-22. In the fourth set both teams danced around each other, with constant lead changes and tie ups. It wasn't until late in the set where the Blazers were able to get that two point lead to secure the match. After tying the set 23-23 the Blazers jumped up by two taking the set with a final score of 25-23.

Rivier took advantage of the shorter set by jumping on the lead early to close it out, 6-15 for the final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Izquierdo registered another double-digit kill stat with 13

Moore bumped up 25 digs in the match

Holman recorded a major double-double with 36 assists and 26 digs

Cabrera registered a double double with 14 kills and 23 digs

Quiana Gibbs (Porterville, CA) also had a double digit kill stat of 12

The Elms College Women's Volleyball team closed out their season with an overall record of 5-23, with a conference record of 4-11.
