Blazers Thumped in Straight Sets to Anchorwomen

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Elms College Women's Volleyball team competed against the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen Thursday afternoon where they fell 0-3 for a final score.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers opened up the first set scoring 5 straight points from the first serve and on. The set was kept close in score with an occurance of a couple lead changes throughout it. Tied at 16's, the Rhode Island Anchorwomen found their momentum and tacked on 5 consecutive points to boost them to the first match point (17-25).

First year Samiayah Cabrera (Springfield, MA) blasted 6 of her 16 kills in the second set, trying to challenge the Anchorwomen to a match point. Unable to take the lead from Rhode Island College, the Blazers would surrender after a hard fought set, falling 20-25.

The Anchorwomen did not slow their pace as they took the third set by storm, securing the final set 14-25 and the match 0-3.

INSIDE THE NUMEBERS:

  • Cabrera recorded 16 kills with 16 digs for a double double
  • Jaylen Holman handed out 23 assists
  • Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, MA) registered 15 digs followed by Alyssa Moore (Ludlow, MA) who also recorded 13 digs in the match.

Blazers compete in a conference tri match at Lasell University where they will go up against the Lasers at 11AM followed by the Colby Sawyer Chargers at 1PM.
