Blazers Taken Down in Straight Sets to Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, MA - The Women's Volleyball team competed against the Western New England University Golden Bears this evening where they fell in straight sets, 0-3 for the final.

How it happened

Within the first set the Golden Bears built up a 9 point lead over the Blazers early, leving them to trail for the rest of the set. Elms' Alejandra Marin was the catalyst to a 5 point run over the Golden Bears to bring the defecite to a nine point gap. WNE closed out the first set securing their first match point in a 14-25 win.

Marin recorded the first and second points including a service ace to start up the second set. With the score tied at 10's, 11's and 12's the Blazers stayed one step behind the Golden Bears not allowing them to get a lead like the first set. WNE made a few late set runs to chip away at a lead, finalizing the set 19-25 for a second match point.

With the momentum building from the first and second set the Golden Bears were able to secure the final set of the match to knock the Blazers 0-3 for the final in the non conference match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Seven was the number last night for the Blazers as Samiyuh Cabrera (Springfield, MA) registered 7 kills, Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, MA) and Jayeln Holman (Las Cruces, NM) both collected 7 digs.
