Blazers Sweep GNAC Trimatch

New London, NH – The Elms College Blazers took their GNAC competition by storm this past weekend, as they traveled to Colby-Sawyer College to play the Chargers and Saint Joseph's College of Maine, Monks.

THE BASICS:
RECORDS: Elms (16-7, 8-3 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Match 1: Elms 3 Saint Joseph's (ME) 0
 
Elms jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the first set. The Blazers held their lead as they led 20-13. Elms took the first set 25-16 and led 1-0 in the match.
 
The second set saw the Blazers and Monks in back-and-forth action as the teams remained tied at 9-9. A pair of kills from Laura Jensen (Torrance, CA) saw the Blazers up 16-12. A pair of Jensen service aces put the Blazers up 20-13 and they closed out the set 25-19. Elms led the match 2-0. 
 
The third set began in similar fashion as the Blazers and Monks were tied 14-14 before a pair of aces from Kianna Lozada (Bayamon, P.R.) gave the Blazers an 18-14 lead. The Blazers closed out the set 25-19 and won the match 3-0. 
 
Inside the Numbers:
Jensen produced nine kills and five service aces with six digs
Alanys Cruz Diaz (Humacao, P.R.) posted eight kills and nine digs
Lozada tacked on 16 digs
Sabrina Christie (Agawam, MA) contributed three kills, six digs, and four block solos
 
Match 2: Elms 3 Colby-Sawyer 1
 
The Blazers came out strong in the first set as Govanna Rosado (Humacao, P.R.) went on a 5-0 service run. Elms maintained the momentum until a Charger run gave them a 2-point advantage at 21-19. The Blazers wouldn't go quietly and a pair of Charger errors evened the set 21-21. A string of Blazer errors ended the set 21-25. Colby Sawyer went up 1-0. 
 
The second set saw the teams even at 10-10 before a service run by Natalia Caraballo Rivera (Fajardo, P.R.) put the Blazers up 14-10. Colby-Sawyer had the momentum leading 20-19 before the Blazers scored six-straight to secure the set win 25-20. Elms evened the match 1-1. 
 
The Blazers saw an early 11-5 lead in the third set. Despite a late push by the Chargers, the Blazers were able to close out the set with a Rosado service ace to win 25-20.Elms led the match 2-1. 
 
The Blazers controlled the fourth set, taking an early lead by a 11-3 margin. A pair of kills from Caraballo Rivera and an ace from Christie closed out the set 25-13. Elms took the match 3-1. 
Caraballo Rivera gave the Blazers a 23-18 lead. Christie went on to ace the Falcons for set point and give the Blazers a 25-19 win. Elms won the match 3-0. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Cruz Diaz led all players with 17 kills and added 13 digs. 
  • Caraballo Rivera added 10 kills and 13 digs.
  • Rosado had a match-high 3 aces and 39 assists.

- The Blazers are back in action on Tuesday 10/26, as they travel to Paxton, MA for a conference matchup against the Anna Maria College AMCATS for a 6PM start.
