Blazers Add Another Road Win

Framingham, MA - The Blazers secured a 3-1 road victory over the Framingham State Rams in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS:

Score: Elms 3 | FSU 1
Records: Elms (6-3-0, 2-1-0 GNAC) | Framingham 6-4-0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers came out strong in the first set, taking an early 9-5 lead after a service run by Jaylianne Ramos Figueroa. Despite a late set effort from the Rams, the Blazers took the first set 25-19.

The second set began with back-and-forth action that saw the Blazers and Rams tied 5-5. The Rams took the lead after several service runs and despite a late run of their own, the Blazers fell 18-25.

The third set again saw a battle for the lead including 10 score ties, before the Blazers pulled away with a service run by Alanys Cruz Diaz putting the Blazers up 22-16. The Blazers finished out the set with back-to-back service aces from Ramos Figueroa and went up 2-1 in the match.

The Blazers and Rams both opened the fourth set with service runs and continued with back-and-forth play most of the set. The Blazers went up 21-16 following a service run from Natalia Caraballo Rivera and closed out the set with a service run by Kianna Lozada. The Blazers took the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

 

  • Cruz Diaz had a match-high 17 kills on 41 attempts for .317 hitting percentage and added two aces, two blocks and 12 defensive digs.
  • Ramos Figueroa chipped in with a double double of 14 kills and 15 digs with five service aces. 
  • Lozada paced the Blazer back row effort with 22 digs and two assists.

- The Blazers are back on the road this Friday 9/24, for a conference matchup against Dean College for a 7PM start.
