Swimming Makes a Splash at Simmons Meet

BOSTON, MA - The Elms College Swimming team hit the pool at Simmons University, in conference play, against the Sharks, Regis College Pride, and Colby-Sawyer College Chargers on Saturday morning, picking up their third win against Colby-Saywer and coming up short against Regis and Simmons.

How it Happened:

Graduate Student DeAngela Fobbs (Bowie, MD) placed first in the 100-yard free (58.47), fly (1:02.94), and 50-yard fly (28.44), resulting in a top-5 finish in program history for the 110-yard fly.

Sophomore Joni McGillis (Katy, TX) placed second in the 50-yard free (26.67), fly (29.96), and the 100-yard free (58.76).

First Year Sasha Plotniak (South Hadley, MA) placed second in the 500-yard free (6:24.34), fifth 1,000-yard free (13:35.49), and 100-yard free (1:05.72).

First Year Evelyn Pohlman (Northbridge, MA) placed third in the 200-yard free (2:23.60) and fourth in the 500-yard free (6:37.38).

In the Women's 200-yard Free Relay, the Blazers finished second overall with a time of 1:53.93 with Fobbs, McGillis, Pohlman, and first year Megan Baio (East Bridgewater, MA).

 

Series History:

2023 - Elms lost to the Chargers 160-35 at Colby-Sawyer

2020 - the Blazers lost to Colby-Sawyer on the road 164-80

"I was happy to break our losing streak against Colby-Sawyer College and to put up some solid swim times against Regis College and Simmons University, the defending GNAC Champions. The Swimmer of the Meet goes to junior Auxana Newell (West Springfield, MA) for her constant effort at practices and her swims in the 50-yard free and 50-yard back".
