Women’s Swimming Falls to Smith College, 157-120

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Elms College sophomore Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) set a new school record in the 500-yard freestyle but the Blazers fell 157-120 in Tuesday evening's women's swim meet at Smith College.

With the loss, Elms moves to 2-2 on the season while Smith improves to 1-1 overall.

DeGrazia touched the wall with a time of 5:35.07 to capture first place honors in the 500-yard freestyle, and added a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.65, while junior Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) added a pair of victories in the 50-yard freestyle (26.58) and the 100-yard freestyle (58.10).

Sophomore Ashley Kirchner (Dalton, Mass.) added wins in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:43.18) and was third in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:16.18 that was just one one-hundreth of a second off the school record. She added a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.85) while sophomore Diana Borys (Oakville, Conn.) won the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 29.18.

The Blazers' 200-yard medley relay team of DeGrazia, Dudunake, Kirchner and junior Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) clocked a time of 58.10 to garner first place, while the team of DeGrazia, Bird, Borys and Dudunake registered a first place performance in the 400-yard freestyle relay, turning in a time of 3:56.09.

Mackenzie Bradley (Sherwood, Ore.) led Smith with victories in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.64) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.28), while the Pioneers scored a total of 29 points in the one-meter and three-meter diving events to help secure the win.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 19 when it travels to Colby-Sawyer College for a 1:00 p.m. meet.
