Elms Falls to Johnson and Wales in GNAC Quarterfinals

Providence, RI – The Elms College Women's Soccer Team had its season come to and end yesterday at Johnson and Wales University. The #9 Blazers come up short against the #1 Wildcats in the Quarterfinals matchup.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers were under continuous pressure for the opening whistle. The home side opened up the scoring at the 12:22 mark and added another 42 seconds later. Elms started to find some possession and had its best chance of the game when Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, N.Y.) found Cassidy Langevin (Enfield, CT) at the top of the box for a one-time shot that was saved by the JWU keeper. The home side added another goal in the 33rd minute off of an unfortunate deflection, sending the game into the half 3-0.

The second half saw back and forth action early with the game being played in the middle of the field. The Wildcats capitalized on a corner kick in the 58th minute and added a 5th goal in the 84th minute, securing the quarterfinals win.

Elms ends the 2023 campaign 7-10-2 overall and 6-8-1 in the GNAC. The Blazers picked up their first ever GNAC post season win when they defeated St. Joseph's College of Maine in the Play-In game.

"It's obviously sad to season our season come to an end. This is a great group that worked hard from day one to today. JWU is the #1 seed for a reason and it showed today. We battled hard and fought for 90 minutes. We are graduating 5 amazing young women and very grateful for all they've done for the program. We're are also very excited for what we have coming back for the 2024 season."
