Women’s Soccer Pushes Past Pilgrims

Chicopee, MA - The Elms College Women's Soccer team defeated GNAC opponent New England College on Saturday afternoon on Leary Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers settled into the GNAC matchup with New England College early by scoring in the 17^th minute. Jamie McDonough (Dedham, MA) gathered a cross at the top od the 18-yard box, dribbled past a Pilgrims defender and placed a left footed shot into the side netting. The cross came from a great combination play between Caroline Wilcox (Pomfret Center, CT) and Linsey Jeffrey (Lincoln, RI). The home side would continue to play in the visitors end of the field but were unable to extend the lead.

The second half was dominated by Elms, the Blazers outshot the Grims 6-0 and controlled the ball throughout the frame. Wilcox pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 62^nd minute, the junior gathered a loose ball 30 yards from goal, maneuvered around an NEC defender, and unleashed a thunderous blast from 26 yards out into the top corner of the far post. The home side added a third goal to complete the 3-0 win in the 76^th minute, Wilcox found Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, N.Y.) in the middle of the Grims 18. Malheiro steered her way past two defenders and placed a shot to the low near post.
