Blazers Fall To Wildcats

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's soccer team came up short in their GNAC matchup with the visiting Johnson and Wales University Wildcats Saturday afternoon on Leary Field.

BASICS

Score: Blazers 1 – Wildcats 5

Records:  Blazers (2-2) (1-1 GNAC) | Wildcats (2-0-2)  (2-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers had their hands full with the two-time defending GNAC champions, and the home side found themselves in a 2-0 hole just 10 minutes into the match. The Wildcats nearly extended the lead to three, but senior keeper Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, NJ) was able to keep the ball out of the Blazers net.

Elms was able to find some time in the JWU end of the field and found the back of the visitor's net off a beautiful goal. Caroline Wilcox (Pomfret Center, CT) dribbled past a defender and slid a perfect pass to Jamie McDonu0gh (Dedham, MA) who took an exemplary first touch and pushed a shot past the Wildcats keeper.

The second half would be all JWU, the visitor's added 3 goals on their way to the road victory.

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Picheo made seven saves
  • Wilcox (1 assist)
  • McDonough (1 Goal)

FROM THE DESK OF COACH MILBIER:
" We definitely had our hands full with a very talented JWU side. After going down 2-0 in the first ten I think most teams would put their heads down. We did the exact opposite, the team picked their play and managed to score a really nice goal and head into halftime only down one. Yet again, I'm beyond proud of the effort all 29 players showed."

UP NEXT:

The Blazers will travel to Dean College on Wednesday 9/13 at 4:00pm for their first road GNAC game of the season.
