Women’s Soccer Opens GNAC Play With Win Over Norwich
Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's soccer team defeated the visiting Cadets of Norwich University last night on Leary Field in GNAC action.

How It Happened:
The Blazers got off to a fast start for the second game in a row, almost scoring in the opening minute. The home side continued to attack the Cadets goal and found the back of the net in the eighth minute. Junior Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, NY) collected a turnover just past midfield and flew past the Cadets outside back, delivering a magnificent pass to First Year Emily Basua (Oxnard, CA) who deposited the ball into the Norwich goal. This was Malheiro's third assist and Basua's fourth goal on the young season.
Elms didn't wait long to add to their lead, striking just 40 seconds later. It was Malheiro getting involved once again, this time taking the role of scorer. Senior Sydney Kennison (Sumers, CT) delivered a gorgeous through ball sending Malheiro in one on one with the Cadets Keeper. The Junior slipped a shot low, near post, giving the Blazers a 2-0 lead.
Norwich answered in the 20th minute capitalizing on a shot from distance.
The second half started with a barrage of attempts on the visitor's goal with the Blazers controlling the ball and the game. Several near misses and timely saves from the Cadets keeper kept the game at 2-1.
