Blazers Fall Short Against Rams

East Boston, MA - The Elms College women's soccer team dropped its season opener (2-1) on the road at Suffolk University on Friday evening.

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 1, Suffolk 2

RECORDS: Elms (0-1-0, 0-0-0 GNAC), Suffolk (1-0-0, 0-0-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers got off to a slow start in the first 30 plus minutes and found themselves trailing 2-0. Elms would get it going in the final 15 minutes of the opening half and cut the deficit to 1. First Year Emily Basua (Oxnard, CA) got on the end the of a perfect cross from Senior Hailey Magierowski (Brimfield, MA) and found the found the back of the net.

The second half saw back and forth action with neither team able to capitalize. The Blazers best chance came in the 37th minute when Sophomore Jamie McDonough (Dedham, MA) dribbled past a defender and pushed a shot just wide.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Basua picked up her first collegiate goal
  • Both teams took 2 coreners
  • Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, NJ) made 6 saves in the game

 

FROM THE DESK OF COACH MILBIER:
" We obviously did not get the desired result in today's game, however there are plenty of positives to take away. Our compete level was high and we battled for all 90 minutes, we will get back to work tomorrow to prepare for our home opener with Suny Canton on Sunday on Leary Field."
