Blazers Fall Short in First Round of GNAC Tournament at SJM

Standish, ME - The Elms College women's soccer team had its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers came up short in their GNAC quarterfinals matchup at Saint Joseph's College of Maine.

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 0, SJM 2

RECORDS: Elms (9-7-3, 7-5-2 GNAC), SJM (12-7-0, 11-3-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game was scoreless until the 57th minute, when the home team created a prime scoring chance and capitalized, taking a 1-0 lead.

The Blazers threw everything they could at the Monks but failed to finish on any of their scoring opportunities. With Elms changing their formation looking to tie the game in the closing minutes, St. Joe's managed to tack on an insurance goal at the 86:59 mark and take the 1st round playoff game 2-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

FROM THE DESK OF COACH MILBIER:
"It's obviously a disappointing way to end our season, we went into the game fully expecting a result and to move on to the next round. Unfortunately it didn't work out, but that has nothing to do with our effort and level of play. We put in an EC effort for 90 min and played really well. I'm beyond proud of this team and all it accomplished this year."
