Women’s Soccer Picks up GNAC Points on the Road at Dean

Franklin, MA - The Elms College women's soccer team picked up a big 1-0 conference win on the road at Dean College on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Blazers secure a spot in the GNAC tournament.

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 1, Dean 0

RECORDS: Elms (9-6-2, 7-4-1 GNAC), Dean (3-8-3, 3-8-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After a scoreless first half, the Blazers scored the game's lone goal 37 seconds into the second frame. First-year Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, N.Y.) dribbled down the right flank and found senior Morgan Foucault (Putnam, CT) at the top of the 6-yard box. From the right side, Foucault drilled the ball into the upper right corner of the net for the game-winner and her fifth goal of the season.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Foucault lead the Blazers in shots on goal with 3
  • Elms outshot Dean 20 – 5 and held a 5– 2 advantage in corners
  • Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, NJ) made 3 saves in the shutout

"Conference road games are always difficult and today proved that. Dean came out with a ton of energy and put us under pressure. I'm very happy with the way we dealt with it and found a way to control the game. Anytime we pick up GNAC points it's a good day."

 

UP NEXT:

The Blazers will jump right back into GNAC play on Sunday, 10/24 when they travel to Colby-Sawyer College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00PM.
