Blazers Pick up Road Win at Mitchell

New London, CT - The Elms College women's soccer team picked up a convincing 3-0 road win at Mitchell College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 3, Mitchell 0

RECORDS: Elms (8-6-2, 6-4-1 GNAC), Mitchell (4-7-1, 0-0-0 NECC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers got off to a fast start scoring in the 2nd minute of the game. Morgan Foucault (Putnam,CT) sent a cross in to Elaina Vilar (Watertown, CT) who placed a perfect shot past the Mitchell keeper. Elms extended their lead in the 15th minute on a Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, NY) goal. The goal came off some nifty passing from Vilar and Foucault which left Malheiro with an easy finish. The Blazers used some more combination work to pick up their 3rd goal with only 30 seconds remaining in the opening half. This time Hannah Duggan (Palmer, MA) and Emily Maffuccio (Pittsfield, MA) set up Lindsey Jeffery (Lincoln, RI) who scored the first goal of her collegiate career.   

Elms continued to have control of the game throughout the second half. The Blazers were unable to extend the lead, but were able to keep the clean sheet and take the non-conference game 3-0.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, NY) lead the Blazers in shots with 6
  • Vilar tallied 1 goal and 1 assist
  • Elms outshot Mitchell 32 – 6 and held a 5– 0 advantage in corners
  • Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, NJ) made 2 saves in the shutout

The Blazers will jump back into GNAC play on Saturday, 10/23 when they travel to Dean College. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30AM
