Women’s Soccer Plays to 2-2 Draw with Regis on Senior Day

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's soccer team tied 2-2 with Regis College Saturday afternoon on Leary Field in GNAC action. The Blazers also celebrated the careers of their two seniors, Paige Silva (Swansea, MA) and Morgan Foucault (Putnam, CT).

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 2, Regis 2

RECORDS: Elms (7-6-2, 6-4-1 GNAC), Regis (7-4-1, 6-3-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first half saw back and forth action with both teams finding the back of the net. The visitors scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. It didn't take long for the Blazers to find the equalizer. Hannah Duggan (Palmer, MA) delivered a perfect pass to the foot of Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA), Pasquel was then able to dribble past a Pride defender and send a left footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net.

The second half was more back and forth action with both teams scoring goals. The Blazers took a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute. Elaina Vilar (Watertown, CT) sent a corner kick into the Regis 18, Foucault was able to get a head on the CK, Abby Goodnow (Chesterfield, MA) was then able to gather the ball and bury it into the visitors net. Elms had multiple chances to add to their lead but could not capitalize. This would prove costly as Regis was able to tie things up late in the 80th minute, sending the conference game to OT.

Both teams had quality scoring chances in the extra time, but neither side could find the winning goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, NY) lead the Blazers in shots with 6
  • Elms outshot Regis 19 – 18 and held a 4– 2 advantage in corners
  • Hannah DelGuidice (Oakland, ME) made 8 saves in a full 90 minutes

FROM THE DESK OF COACH MILBIER:
"Today was an absolute 110 minute battle between two very evenly matched teams. I'm proud of the EC-effort and resiliency we showed. I think we did our seniors proud."

UP NEXT:

The Blazers will be on the road Monday, 10/18 when they travel to Mitchell College for a non-conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30PM
